{Ice Cream Party} Blackboard sign tutorial

From the moment I started planning this party, I knew I wanted a cute blackboard for the stand. Problem is: my writing is awful, and even more so when armed with a chalk !!!
So I had to think of another way....

I designed the sign in Photoshop and wrote in white on a black background.
The font I used is Chalkduster and can you believe the doodles are a font too (it's called MTF Sweet Dings) ?
I printed the sign on premium paper (I would recommend having it printed in a shop as it will use a lot of ink...) and trimmed off the white edges.

Then I cut a thin piece of wood the size of my sheet of paper and painted it black.

The final step is really easy: just mod-podge the sheet on the board and give it a couple of coats of varnish to make it more hardwearing.
I hammered a couple of nails at the back and used rustic twine to hang the sign to the stand.

If you do not wish to design the blackboard yourself, check the Paper Glitter Etsy shop as they’ve just released a choice of adorable printable chalkboards... (I heart this shop)

{Recipe} French Yogurt Cake - Gateau au Yaourt

As far as I am aware, every French household has its own recipe for yogurt cake ! This is the very basic sponge cake that pretty much everybody knows how to bake.

The reason for its success is the easy measuring process, making it an ideal recipe to prepare with children.

You start with an individual portion of natural yogurt and the pot/tub then becomes the measuring jug for all your ingredients.

{Craft} Tulle pompoms Tutorial

The Ballerina party is in less than 3 weeks and I have now officially entered panic mode !!! I have still A LOT to craft for this party... so I guess I have a few late night ahead of me...

Today I am sharing this easy tutorial to make tulle pompoms.
Do you remember making wool pompom when you were in school ? I do, but I couldn't remember how to !!! so I had to google it and after reading a couple of tutorials, it all came back to me. It is pretty easy.

Anyway, I used the same technique to make these adorable tulle pompom.

You will need
Carboard
Tulle roll in the colour of your choice
Matching Ribbon
Scissors

How-to
Cut a piece of ribbon, long enough to hang your pompom
Cut out two cardboard rings (start by cutting a circle, then fold in two and cut out a small half circle from the middle, it does not have to be perfect)
Place the ribbon in between the rings.
Start wrapping the tulle around the rings until all the cardboard is covered.
Pull some of the tulle apart to have room for the scissors and cut the tulle at the edge
Tie ribbon and pull cardboard rings out.

{How to} make Pineapple Flowers

I first saw these decorations in my book Cupcakes and Fairy Cakes by the Australian Women Weekly. They have been on my “to try” list for a long time and I am glad to have finally found the occasion to make them. Don’t they just make the perfect decorations for my Panna Coladas ???

They really are quite simple to make, here is a quick how to:

You will need
A pineapple
A sharp knife
Several empty egg boxes

Instructions
Pre-heat your oven to 100 deg C (fan forced)
Take the pineapple and peel it.
Using a sharp knife, cut the thinnest slices you can manage (you may use a mandoline if you have one).
Place the slices on a wire rack.
Make a sugar sirup by bringing to the boil 1 table spoon of caster sugar with 1 table spoon of water.
Using a pastry brush, brush each side of the pineapple slices with the sirup.
Dry in the oven  for about an hour or until golden on the edges.
Immediatly remove the slices and place on the “towers” of an egg box to cool. They will harden while cooling and keep their shape.
You now have lovely pineapple flowers.

{Parties} Boy Construction Party Feature

Up to now I haven't been posting many ideas for boys parties on this blog, simply because my first 2 children are girls ! But now that I have a little boy I find myself more and more attracted to boy party themes !
I wanted to share with you these amazing Constructions Parties I have noticed recently. They are so much fun, I can't wait to have he opportunity to create one myself !!!

First up is this I Dig You Party from Wants and Wishes recently featured on Pizzazzerie

Next we have this Construction Crew Party by Spaceships and Laserbeams recently featured on Amy Atlas's blog.
Again, great job with the cake and I love the vivid colours of the printables.

What a fantastic nail art banner ! So creative !

So which one is your favourite ???

{Craft} DIY Mini Cupcake Stands

When I first saw a tutorial to make these mini cupcake stands over at The TomKat Studio, I knew straight away I was going to make them one day !
Well this day has come, I have made a few of these in preparation for my daughter's Ballerina Party (read about some other projects for this party here). Aren't they just so cute ???

Here is what you will need:

Mini wooden candlesticks (about 3")
76mm Wooden circles (From Wood Craft Shapes on ebay)
Wood glue
Sanding paper
Paper and pencil

Unfortunately, I was not able to source the mini wooden candlesticks from the UK, I just couldn't find them anywhere. Instead I had one of my friends bring them back from her holiday in the US... They're from Hobby Lobby.
But please, if you know where to find them in the UK, share in the comment section and I'll update the post.

Because I am a bit of a perfectionist, I had to find a way to position the candlesticks bang in the middle of the wooden circles. Here is how I did it.
Take a sheet of paper and with a pencil draw around the shapes of the wood circle and the end of the candlestick.
Cutout the two templates.
Fold in half and then in half again so as to get quarters.
Position the small shape on the bigger one, matching the corners, and draw around it.
Cutout the small shape.
Unfold and use as a template to draw a small circle shape on the wooden circles.
Apply some glue on the end of the candlestick and position the candlestick on the small circle.
Hold in place for a few seconds.
Let dry as per manufacturer's instructions
When dry, spray paint them in the colour of your choice.
Distress with sanding paper if you wish.
Embelish as you want !!
