{Craft} Washi taped paper medallions

I am super excited to announce that I am the new Party Crafts contributor for the Catch My Party blog !!!

If you are visiting from Catch my Party, Welcome ! I hope you will find That Cute Little Cake inspiring ! Don't hesitate to browse through past projects or parties !!! And if you wish to keep informed with my new projects then please follow That Cute Little Cake via Facebook or email.

My first contributor post was published yesterday and it is the tutorial to make these gorgeous Washi tape embellished medallions!
They are super easy to make and thanks to the wide range of Washi tapes on the market, you are sure to be able to match your colour scheme !

I have made loads of these to prepare the backdrop for the Detective Party dessert table, but even 4 or 5 make a nice statement, see the picture below... I was missing something over my Back to School mantel so I "stole" a few from the stash ! They add just the right amount of texture and colour to the bare wall over the mantel.

{Detective Party} Let's start crafting !

Today I am sharing my colour scheme and the main craft supplies I'll be using to craft for the Detective party!

I have been wanting to use Washi tape for a long time but unfortunately our previous party themes did not seem to call for the use of it... So this time, get ready for Washi overload because I am pretty much "washiing" everything I am doing for this party !!!
Since I wanted to use different colors throughout the party, the use of Washi tape fits in perfectly! I got a small assortment from Michael's and, dare I say, I LOVE the result !!!

My daughter being a right little bookworm, I imagined straight away using book pages for the decorations. So I went to the Goodwill store and got a nice thick book with a good looking font for $2. I had a hard time (emotionally) tearing the cover and first pages off ( I have this thing about books, I always cherish them like the most precious things!) but then I got excited about the possibilities and started crafting !!

And this is pretty much all the supplies I have bought so far for this party !!!

We're having a Detective Party !!!

My eldest daughter usually chooses her birthday theme pretty early in the year and does not change her mind.
For her 4th birthday, as we started discussing themes ahead of the party, she decided on a Pirate Party straight away and never went back on her decision.
For her 5th birthday, she announced in January that she wanted her party (in september...!) to be based on one of her favourite books: We're going on a bear hunt. Since I was a bit clueless with the theme, I tried to see if she might change her mind... She wouldn't, her mind was set. So we had a We're Going on a Bear Hunt party !!! (and it really was such a fun theme in the end).
Last year, for her 6th birthday, she had a Ballerina Party and I am pretty sure that the theme for that year was decided right after her 5th birthday !!!

But this year, she just couldn't find THE theme ! We've been talking about it all year, running through ideas, but nothing we came up with seemed to fit. At some point she asked if we could take a few of her friends bird watching, and since we live very close to the Bay it would have been a great activity, but by the next morning she had changed her mind.
So until the beginning of the summer, we did not know what we were going to do !

And then one day, on our way back from the library, we had a revelation :) Noemie has been devouring mystery books all year and has especially enjoyed reading the A to Z Mysteries series !
Our theme was found at last !!! It would be a Detective Party !!!
I have been so excited about this theme that I started crafting for it the day after Chloe's Pirate party! I couldn't wait to get started.

With a general Detective/Mystery theme, I am pretty free to do what I want for the decorations, but since her favourite series is the A to Z mysteries I have tried to work around those books.

The first thing I noticed is the multi coloured title. I really liked the idea of being able to use lots of colours.
Then each book has a different mystery to solve (always featuring the same 3 kid characters) giving me loads of options for the elements I will display on the dessert table.

This is going to be so much fun to prepare !!! I can't wait to show you all the things I have started crafting for this party !

Our Back to School Mantle

My girls went back to school on monday ! Can you believe summer is over ??
They are really happy to be back in school and to see all their friends again, so all is going well.

After being inspired by this Back to school mantle, I decided to create one too !
Last year I had made a very special Back to School breakfast on the day the girls went back to school, but since I was away last week end returning late on sunday, I knew I would not be able to make the same kind of breakfast this year :(
However, I couldn't let this day go unnoticed so I decided to decorate our mantle.
Here is the result. I love seeing this every morning and it has helped putting us all in the mood for school again !

I am going through a washi tape phase hence the taped blackboard and mason jar !
The super cute fruit stickers are from Oh Happy Day!
And for the banner I simply used my Silhouette to cut out letters and glued them on book pages.

I wish you all a fantastic school year !!!
